Care & Maintenance
AWG Custom Doors wants your new door to last for years. Your door will need proper finishing and periodic maintenance to keep it performing at it's best.

Fiberglass and steel doors, wood frames and trims will be provided with a factory applied primer. It is recommended for manufacturer warranties that these parts be painted with two coats of a good quality exterior latex or enamel paint on all six sides. Some minor filling and sanding may be required prior to finishing. When staining a textured fiberglass door, the slab manufacturer recommends finishing be provided by someone who is familiar with the finishing of this material.

Wood exterior doors, are supplied unfinished. These doors require three to five coats of paint, varnish or polyurethane to prevent undue absorption of moisture and maintain warranty. See the BC Door link below for valuable information on colour choice, warranty, finishing and install instructions.

Exterior door finishes may deteriorate quickly in extreme weather, especially with little or no overhang. Inspect the finish of your door regularly and refinish as needed.

It is important to follow the coating manufacturer's recommended application procedures to ensure the best finish result. See the links below for all the finishing instructions provided by each manufacturer.

We offer primed door frames and vertical grain Douglas Fir frames. These frames require painting to maintain your warranty. Both frame types can also have exterior metal cladding for a durable low maintenance finish. Metal-clad door frames are available in white or black, custom colours are available upon request.
